Getting Caught Taking Selfies

August 13, 2017

Friday, because of some delays with my documents at the National Archives, I finally got to do some tourist-y things around London.  I hit a couple of the big attractions like the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben (famous from the 2001 film featuring the Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Winning London), Westminster Abbey (popularized by the season four finale of Friends), and the BBC (local program mostly known for their live stream of parliament).

Happy to report that all of my public transportation woes have dissolved and I can say properly that I understand the system and can get where I need to go now (excluding a couple of times when I forgot to get off at my stop because I got distracted playing games on my phone. whoops...).

At this point in the post, you may be asking, "Lincoln, what's with all the awkward photos of you?" The answer to your question is called I really dislike talking selfies, because it just looks so... I don't know... millennial I guess... and so every time someone makes eye contact with me while I'm in the act I instinctively look away.  I honestly cannot explain it.  But it has resulted in some seriously funny photos of me at iconic places.  I thought I would share them for your enjoyment.  (I thought that this blog would be less embarrassing for me.  I was wrong.)

In an attempt to have a normal photo of myself, I asked a woman (in Spanish!) to take a photo of me in front of the Houses of Parliament. After responding to me in English (yikes, guess my Spanish still needs some work) the resulting photo had me blinking.  Such is life.

Thus far, this really has been the only downside to solo travel.  I guess it's not too much of a downside, but I would like to have a couple of photos where I'm not looking out of frame in an attempt to seem casual.  I'll work on it.

But for now please enjoy my awkward photos. Also,  please instruct me on how to take selfies without looking like a suburban dad who was told that there was too little ice at the barbecue.

Bonus pic of the BBC.  Doesn't feature me looking away awkwardly, and it's not composed/exposed very well either.  Oh well.
