Eating My Way Through Cape Town

June 15, 2017

Cape Town was an absolute dream.  What really made it amazing was the fantastic (and cheap) food.  Honestly speaking I did not have a bad meal the entire time I was in South Africa (omitting the butter and lettuce breakfast sandwich). How could I when I ate calamari at least once a day?!

Here's a little round up of the things that I let sit still long
enough to take a photo.  Everything was incredible. I'm still dreaming of those bagels.

THIS was the best meal I had in Cape Town.  Hands down.  Stuffed calamari in a sweet curry sauce at the Greek Fisherman overlooking the V&A waterfront.  This restaurant was so gorgeously decorated and all of the tables had blankets (my favorite thing about South African restaurants).  I loved every minute of this meal.

This is a low quality photo of a HIGH quality latte.  Bootlegger Coffee in Seapoint was so fun, so hipster, and so cheap.  I loved it a latte.

Crumbs and Cream was everything.  You choose your cookies (choose two different ones if you're feeling risky!), your ice-cream, and your toppings and the awesome workers put it together while you have a dance party and swing like you're 7 again.  Another Seapoint favorite.

I am cheesin' very hard for this cheeseburger.  Pineapple and avocado on the same piece of meat? Yes, Please!

I was told that New York Bagels near District 6 had the best bagels on the entire African continent and and it's true! These bagels were so incredible (they were also almost the last thing I ever ate, but that's a story for another day).
How about this plate of fish and chips.  I'm cheating a bit here-- this was actually eaten overlooking Boulder Beach (where the adorable penguins live!!) about 25 minutes out of Cape Town, but it was too delicious not to share. Americans beware-- ketchup is not very popular in South Africa so get ready to dip those fries in tartar sauce or vinegar.

Would you just look at how precious this little gold plated macaroon is? I got it at a warehouse market at the V&A Waterfront along with a rose flavored one and a nutella flavored one (Cape Town loooooves nutella).  The V&A is super fun to explore and snack and to catch a ferry to Robben Island.

Ever been to Cape Town? Something yummy I missed out on? Let me know below!
